Environmental Scientist
Nicole is an experienced environmental professional with over 20 years of experience in the environmental field within the municipal, consulting, and corporate areas. She has worked as an environmental technical resource and Project Manager completing environmental reports, reviewing reports, mentoring, and marketing within Canada and the United States. Nicole has worked as a consultant on a wide range of projects such as: Phase I, Phase II, and Phase III ESAs, groundwater monitoring, remediation, and reclamation work on oil and gas, residential, commercial, and industrial properties. She has worked to assess mould, hazardous materials, and concerns related to occupational health and safety. Nicole previously acted as an environmental advisor to legal, real estate, and construction groups for a large chain within Canada and the United States. She advised on risk mitigation measures as well as ensured proper environmental procedures were implemented for all new development and renovation projects.
Nicole has a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science (Biology) from the University of Toronto and is registered as a Professional Agrologist in Alberta and as an Environmental Professional through the Canadian Environmental Certification Approvals Board.
Soil Scientist
Joe is a Professional Agrologist with 40 years of experience in agriculture, mainly in mapping soil, agricultural capability, and terrain; construction monitoring; reclamation research, operations, and assessment. Clients have included agricultural organizations, forest companies, First Nations, oil and gas, oil sands, mines, governments, NGOs, and private landowners.
He has also participated in horticultural research, managed a test orchard, and registered new fruit varieties for plant breeders’ rights.
Joe has provided biological and chemical pest control services and prepared integrated pest management plans for residential, commercial, industrial, and municipal customers.
He has presented seminars and written articles on soil description, pesticide application, tree fruit varieties, water conservation and irrigation scheduling.
Joe has a B.Sc. in Agriculture (Soil Science) from the University of British Columbia and a certificate in Geographic Information Systems specialization from the University of California – Davis.
Soil Scientist / Hydrogeologist
With 20+ years of experience, Ymène has always enjoyed exploring natural environments and living among them. She grew up in Tunisia where she studied geology and environmental engineering. She obtained a master’s degree in environmental studies in Glasgow, Scotland. Her adventures took her to the US where she joined a doctoral program in soil science and conducted field-based research. She measured the components of the water balance and compared various cropping systems in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Post-doctoral research focused on hydrology and nutrient management on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, quantifying nutrient and sediment losses via runoff into the Chesapeake Bay. The source of these nutrients was the intensive poultry industry on the Delmarva Peninsula. This experience led her to the Canadian prairies where she explored beneficial agricultural management practices in nutrient management and water quality in Southeastern Saskatchewan. She then went on to consult for the oil and gas industry in Alberta and assessing soil and groundwater contamination with hydrocarbons and salinity. As an environmental expert, she worked on a project for the International Fund for Agricultural Development on sustainable agricultural practices in eastern Senegal. Currently based in Calgary, she works independently as an environmental soil scientist and hydrogeologist, sings in two Calgary choirs, and volunteers as an interpreter for the Calgary Catholic Immigration Society.
Environmental Technologist
Olaf is a registered technologist in agrology with 20 years of experience in the oil and gas sector. He has conducted Phase 1, 2, and 3 environmental site assessments (ESAs); remediation; and reclamation related to the upstream and midstream oil and gas industry. Olaf’s expertise is in wellsite and associated facilities reclamation, which includes site supervision, detailed site assessments, and reclamation certificate applications. Throughout most of his career he has managed programs in cultivated, native grassland, peatland, and forested/green zone environments across Alberta, and has experience in Saskatchewan. He has experience in training and coaching junior and intermediate staff with respect to conducting safe and high-quality fieldwork and preparing project reporting.
Environmental Technologist
Omar has eight years of extensive experience completing reclamation, pipeline integrity digs, Phase I, Phase II and Phase III Environmental Site Assessment (ESAs), Detailed Site Assessments, Electromagnetic Surveys (EM), wetland delineation, environmental pipeline monitoring, and groundwater monitoring, primarily in the oil & gas sector throughout western Canada.
Omar has built a strong understanding of Alberta, BC and Saskatchewan’s environmental regulatory processes and policies. His projects have included the assessment of environmental impact of industrial activities, soil stripping and topsoil salvage for the Enbridge Line 3 replacement program in Saskatchewan, conducting oil sands exploration site assessments via helicopter for major oil and gas companies, land spray operations for drilling rigs, water and soil sampling, sump samples, pre-construction assessments, pump-off operations, disposal on forested public lands, spill response work and disposal projects with budgets of up to $500,000.00
Omar is a licensed and registered technical agrologist with the Alberta Institute of Agrologists. He has an Environmental Land Reclamation Diploma from Medicine Hat College and has a certificate for Forested Lands and Vegetation Criteria from Olds College.
Greenhouse Gas Management Professional
Graham is a sustainability professional with 19 years of experience, most of which has been in the fields of energy and emissions management. Graham has worked in the UK and Australia as well as Canada. His experience includes development of corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories for municipal governments and institutions, as well as multiple oil and gas clients – using the ICLEI PCP framework, CSA Challenge Registry, CAPP Stewardship/RCE program and WBCSD/WRI GHG Accounting Protocol – as well as facility level reporting for power and oil & gas clients to the Alberta SGRR & SGER programs. Additionally, Graham has developed dozens of Offset Credit projects in AB, BC and on the Canadian voluntary market, in areas as diverse as biogas and wastewater methane capture, wind power, biomass energy generation, commercial & institutional energy efficiency and pneumatic controllers. Graham has also completed verification and audit engagements for SGER facility and project reporting in the pulp and paper, oil & gas (upstream and downstream), power, mining, agriculture and chemicals sectors. Graham regularly teaches professional courses on ISO 14064-1, -2 and -3 on behalf of the Canadian Standards Association.
Graham has a Master of Science degree in Energy and Sustainable Building Design from the De Montfort University in England and a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Management from the University of Dundee in Scotland. He is certified as an Environmental Professional in Greenhouse Gas Quantification (Projects and Inventories) via ECO Canada.
Environmental Scientist
Alfredo is a Professional Agrologist with more than 20 years of experience in agriculture and the environment, primarily as a soil scientist. He has successfully managed contaminated site remediation, land reclamation and soil conservation projects throughout western Canada, on agricultural land, native prairie land as well as forested and peat land sites. Alfredo has conducted baseline soil surveys for pipeline construction and reclamation applications, as well as pre-development site assessments and soil monitoring programs as part of operating approvals. He has experience in environmental monitoring for construction of wellsites, as well as has provided field support to pipeline, powerline construction and monitoring teams. On the downstream side, Alfredo has participated in tank removal programs in Saskatchewan and Alberta as well as implemented risk management programs at decommissioned gas stations.
He has carried out numerous groundwater-monitoring programs to evaluate water quality around farmland, landfills, as well as industrial facilities such as oil and gas operations. Alfredo has conducted a number of liability assessments for clients that were evaluating corporate liabilities during acquisitions as well as to meet regulatory requirements. In addition, he has been lead assessor for contaminated site investigations for commercial Phase I and II ESAs, and for site-specific liability assessments for the AER’s Licensee Liability Rating (LLR) program. Alfredo also has experience in the field of agricultural waste management and composting as well as nutrient cycling. He has honed his agronomic skills through teaching at Olds College and as a member of the Industry Advisory Committee to the Land Reclamation program. He is able to communicate with stakeholders, including regulatory agents, contractors and landowners to ensure successful outcomes of project goals. Alfredo has a Master of Science in Soil Biology and a Bachelor of Science in Soil Science, both from the University of Alberta. He is a professional Agrologist in Alberta and British Columbia.
Environmental Engineer
Klym manages air quality and energy-related projects including greenhouse gas verification, environmental approvals, air emission inventories and control studies, transportation and energy system studies, and environmental database and software development. Klym is a registered Professional Engineer in the province of Alberta and has his Certificate of Completion for the CSA GHG Verification Using ISO 14064 three-day training course. He has 20 years of experience working in both consulting and industry, providing project management and air quality-related services.
Klym attended the University of Toronto where he received his Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) in Mechanical Engineering. He also received the Dr. Arthur Hermann Memorial Award for his thesis project and course work at the University of Toronto, reflecting concern for the protection of the environment.
Environmental Planner / Biologist
Nathan is an environmental planner with over fifteen years of experience conducting environmental assessments, planning, and regulatory permitting for public and private sector clients. He has an extensive technical background completing environmental assessments including wildlife, vegetation, and fisheries surveys, aquatic and terrestrial habitat classification and mapping, and environmental site assessments. Nathan has worked as an environmental planner and project manager coordinating multidisciplinary teams to conduct environmental assessments and to achieve regulatory permits and approvals.
Nathan has acted as environmental advisor on behalf of several municipalities reviewing proponent environmental assessment reports and is specialized in Wetlands, Species at Risk, Environmental Impact Assessments, and Biophysical Impact Assessments. He is experienced with providing mitigation to avoid or minimize environmental impacts, and with ecological restoration plans. Nathan has basic GIS software skills, combined with a very good proficiency with web-enabled GIS mapping applications and in-the-field GIS data collector systems. He has managed multi-disciplinary teams across multiple offices and profit centres and is able to produce scopes of work and budgets for large ongoing client support programs. He combines his excellent technical writing, review, and editing skills with very good personal communication skills and high personal standards and professionalism.
Nathan is registered as a Professional Biologist with the Alberta Society of Professional Biologist. He has a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources Management – Wildlife and Fisheries from the University of Northern British Columbia.
Ecologist
Carol is a native Calgarian and professional biologist who has spent time tromping around the foothills of Alberta riding horses, watching birds, camping and backpacking. Her 15 years + of experience has led her to be skilled at understanding human-wildlife interactions, environmental impacts, habitat restoration and wildlife management. Her wish is to combine her skills in ecology, biodiversity, species at risk and collaboration to solve environmental and sustainability problems. She has an in-depth understanding of natural resource policy and regulatory frameworks in Western Canada. She has coordinated pre-disturbance field programs and completed many environmental audits and inspections for oil and gas facilities and pipelines.
She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Ecology from the University of Calgary as well as an Occupational Health and Safety Certificate from the University of Alberta. In addition, she has completed numerous post-secondary training to complement her formal education, including stakeholder engagement. She is a past board member, president, and is the current Chair of the Practice Review Committee with the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists.
Carol is on the Board of Directors of the Alberta Ecotrust and a long-time volunteer with the Calgary Stampede.
Environmental Scientist
Aimée has 10 years of experience in the environmental field, 6 years as a practicing professional. She is familiar with applications under the Water Act for end pit lakes, pit-to-pit dewatering, or dewatering offsite. She has advised managers and clients on regulatory requirements associated with both Water Act applications and Code of Practices. Part of her work has included completing soil and vegetation assessments where rare plants and species at risk are always a consideration. She has participated in field assessments and coordinated biological field programs including: vegetation, ecological land classification, wetland, wildlife, species at risk, soil classification and monitoring, as well as coordinated and prepared environmental approvals and permits required for projects including Federal, Provincial, and Municipal permits; she has also been involved in First Nation Consultations. In addition, she has worked on environmental impact assessments, Phase 1 and 2 environmental site assessments, detailed site assessments, groundwater monitoring, remediation and reclamation certificate applications.
Aimée is a registered Professional Agrologist as well as a Certified Engineering Technologist and is a Wetland Authenticating Professional. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Geography and a Geomatics Certificate from Nipissing University as well as an Architectural Technology degree from Fanshawe College. In addition, she has obtained extensive post-secondary training in multiple facets of Environmental Science including Applied Soil Physics; Water Quality; Wetland Delineation, Classification, and Assessment; Applied Soil Fertility; Applied Hydrogeology; Classification and Reclamation of Alberta Soils; and Plant Identification. She is also adept with AutoCAD, is a Commissioner for Oaths in Alberta, and has completed the Level 1 Fundamentals Swimming Coach and Lifeguard training. Her passion fuels her willingness to work flexible hours under a variety of conditions.
Ecologist/Data Analyst and Logix Systems Developer
Marcus is an ecologist and lead modeller at Beckingham with a focus on ecological interpretive and predictive modelling, data management and processing frameworks, statistical analysis, and application development. Marcus has 15 years of diverse applied ecology work experience in China, Europe, and central Canada with strong expertise in designing and utilizing models to evaluate and facilitate forest management, environmental site assessment, and predictive carbon sequestration.
At Beckingham, Marcus is the primary developer of the LogixTM model suite, which applies biogeoclimatic ecosystem classification theory to collected environmental data and creates integrative models that address multiple environmental factors and predictive ecosystem trends. In the development of the models, Marcus adapts new data and technologies to existing classification paradigms and creates new data management and classification strategies. In addition, Marcus has been involved in various other modelling projects including forest management unit modelling and data processing in northern Alberta, ecosystem and habitat modelling in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, and environmental impact assessments of multiple oil and gas developments at numerous locations. Furthermore, Marcus has contributed to numerous environmental projects ranging from Phase I, II, and III environmental site assessments, groundwater and soil quality investigation and assessments, hydrological data interpretation, and time series data analysis.
Marcus has a Ph.D. and a Master of Science in Forestry from the University of Goettingen, Goettingen, Germany. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Forestry from the Northwest Agriculture and Forest University, Yangling, China.
Environmental Scientist / Contaminated Site Expert
Mayson has extensive experience completing oil and gas projects across Western Canada and in the United States. He specializes in using risk assessment approaches to reduce or eliminate remediation requirements to achieve regulatory closure of contaminated sites.
For over 15 years, he has managed multi-disciplinary project teams across Western Canada and in the United States to complete work within a wide variety of sectors, including oil and gas, railway, mining, commercial, and industrial.
Mayson’s expertise includes strong technical review and project oversight, with a focus on the development of innovative approaches in the assessment and clean-up of contaminated sites. Mayson has directed and managed many contaminated soil and groundwater projects from initial investigations to implementation of remediation and/or risk-based solutions. He provides specialist review and advice on a variety of remediation and redevelopment projects in Western Canada.
Mayson has a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Chemistry from the University of Victoria and is registered as a Professional Chemist in Alberta and British Columbia.
Environmental Engineer
Roger has over 25 years of environmental consulting experience and has expertise in numerous areas of environmental consulting. These include contaminated site assessment and remediation (oilfield and industrial sites), environmental management systems auditing, design and implementation, environmental compliance auditing (AER and AEP regulated operations) and environmental due diligence assessments (oilfield and commercial/industrial). Roger’s most valuable attributes include his ability to see practical, cost-effective solutions to complex problems and to effectively communicate nuanced complex concepts and interpretations in ways people from all disciplines and backgrounds can easily understand.
Throughout his career, Roger’s keen technical mind and practical approach to problem solving has helped save his clients significant sums of money. In one case, Roger was called in to take over a large-scale remediation project from a well-known high-profile environmental consulting company. By taking a more pragmatic and common-sense approach to assessing the problem and by working closely with the regulator, Roger was able to take the project which was originally estimated at 3.25 million dollars and complete it to the regulator’s satisfaction for less than one tenth of that cost. In another case, Roger was able to save a high-profile oilfield client 30 million dollars on the acquisition of a major facility through his tenacious review and analysis of over 25 years’ worth of complex environmental monitoring data.
Roger is a professional engineer registered with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) and holds a bachelor’s degree in Geological Engineering (Geophysics option) from the University of British Columbia. His strong background in engineering, geology, hydrogeology and geophysics is a major part of why he is able to find practical and cost-effective solutions to complex assessment and remediation problems. His passions include water skiing, backcountry skiing, music and dogs. As a sideline, he owns a small pet I.D. tag business that raises money for pet rescue organizations across Canada through a generous donation-matching program.
GIS Specialist
As a GIS/Remote Sensing Specialist with a background in ecology and forestry, Zoran has gained extensive experience using remote sensing and GIS analysis to examine the effects of anthropogenic disturbances on landscapes, hydrological resources (wetlands and water crossings), vegetation, and wildlife. For over 17 years, he has led multidisciplinary teams in developing and designing spatial analysis processes for the oil and gas, mining, utilities and pipeline industries. Among many national and international projects to which he has contributed, a key highlight of Zoran’s experience is leading the world’s largest landscape area analysis of anthropogenic changes across Quebec, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, BC and Alberta. The results gathered from the landscape change analysis were used in habitat modeling, habitat fragmentation and loss analysis, TLU mapping, land use planning, EIA/BIA – cumulative effects assessments, and reviews, pipeline environmental risk assessments, pipeline and road alignment sheets, and wetland mapping. He also developed and executed a methodology for the Avian Hazard Mapping and Risk Assessment for the Oil Sands Region and worked in a partnership with World Resource Institute and Global Forest Watch to map intact areas in boreal forests.
Zoran’s technical skills include the use and application of Landsat 5, 7 and 8, Aster, SPOT, Quick Bird, and orthophotography. He has a high-level of expertise with the ArcView/ArcGIS software suite and ERDAS IMAGINE, and is proficient at creating and maintaining geo-databases and metadata in programs such as MetaLite Satellite Image and ArcCatalog. He also has considerable experience in using statistical data analysis (Microsoft Excel, Access, SAS and Sigma Plot) to support the validation of geospatial findings.
Zoran has a Masters in Renewable Resources – Forestry from the University of Alberta and his work has been published in scientific journals. He has also been involved in hearing documents preparation and has been called upon to be an expert witness.
Project Manager / Noise Consultant
Carolyn’s focus is on leading engineers and scientists through challenging, complex, and remote environmental assignments. Her unique, natural curiosity to understand her teams and clients gives her the knowledge and tools to successfully guide multi-disciplinary and cross-cultural teams to successful project completion. Carolyn also works as an environmental specialist, reviewing changing environmental policies, acts, and regulations, to identify and provide strategic advice to business units impacted by the changes.
Previously, Carolyn worked as a technical acoustic expert and project manager/coordinator for Golder Associates and Triton Environmental. It was during her 13 years in the consulting world that she learned the importance of “seek to understand” mentality. Because of this, Carolyn was successful in understanding the client’s needs and motivating the team through a Chinese (Tibetan) Gold Mine Environmental and Social Impact Assessment report, and through two Greenland, offshore oil and gas exploration Environmental Impact Assessment reports, to name a few.
Carolyn holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Earth Science from the University of Calgary, is a registered Project Manager Professional and a registered Environmental Professional.
Carolyn enjoys being in nature, travelling with her family, learning human psychology, helping animals, running and team sports.
GIS Specialist
Olivia is a seasoned field technician with particular expertise in soil and groundwater assessment. She has an advanced diploma in Marine Geomatics from the Centre of Geographic Sciences and a Bachelor of Community Design with a minor in Environmental Planning from Dalhousie University.
